What happens as a result of prolonged tobacco smoking
Prolonged tobacco smoking is a regular process of cigarettes and other tobacco products use during a long period of time. Medical researches show that prolonged tobacco smoking highly increases risk of different diseases development and causes untimely death.
Prolonged tobacco smoking may provoke following diseases:
respiratory tracts and lungs diseases, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema, lung cancer, lips and throat cancer. Note that smokers’ risk to die from chronic bronchitis and emphysema 5 times higher than of those who do not smoke. Smoking men’s risk to die from lung cancer 23 times higher, and smoking women — 11 times higher than the risk of nonsmokers;
cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, ischemic heart disease that leads to myocardial infarction. Nicotine causes high fragility and thrombosis of blood vessels. Heart and brain vessels suffer greatly and as a result a person can get myocardial infarction or stroke. Note that smokers’ risk to die from cardiovascular diseases is two times higher than of those who do not smoke. Smokers’ risk to die from stroke is 1,5 times higher than of those who do not smoke;
digestive apparatus diseases, including gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, pancreas cancer;
genito-urinary diseases, including hypernephroma and urinary bladder cancer. Smokers’ risk to die from hypernephroma and urinary bladder cancer is several times higher than of those who is indifferent to cigarettes;
smoking may cause depression of function of men and women reproductive systems and men’s impotence. Nicotine causes high fragility and thrombosis of blood vessels. Thus there may appear complete thrombosis of penis. In this case there develops constant impotence;
smoking may lead to legs’ amputation. There appears blood supply disturbance of legs. Such disturbances may cause the necessity of legs amputation;
smoking may lead to breast cancer. Risk of breast cancer development of those women, who have started to smoke at early age, is on 70% higher than of those women who do not smoke.
Vast majority of diseases mentioned above leads to death. Note that annually much more people die from diseases connected with tobacco smoking, than from AIDS, alcohol, drugs, traffic accidents, murders, suicides, fires taken together.
